Click here to edit text. < 1 > DCERT works closely with local police, fire, EMS, emergency management, and community groups. Many team members are also affiliated with these organizations. Members are equipped with radio communications, vehicle lighting, and safety vests. Team meetings are held several times during the year and family participation is encouraged. In 2008, DCERT was chosen as Dodge County's Citizen of the Year by the Dodge County Executive Law Enforcement Association, in honor of its many hours of volunteer service to the community. For over 30 years DCERT has been assisting Dodge county, volunteers invest their own time and money to help when needed. This frees up officers to respond to other incidents and fulfill high priority tasks. In the year 2015 DCERT volunteers put in more than 1500 hours. More than 150 U.S. law enforcement officers have been killed since 1999 after being struck by vehicles along America's highways, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. To lower that deadly toll, a new coalition of traffic safety and law enforcement groups is launching a nationwide public awareness campaign to protect emergency personnel along our nation's roadsides. Wisconsin state law requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down in order to provide a "safety zone" for a squad car, ambulance, fire truck, tow truck or highway maintenance vehicle that is stopped on the side of a road with its warning lights flashing.
